Boat Shell - Project Brief

The redevelopment of Lane Cove National Park Boatshed is to upgrade the current boatshed with new timber structure. The major open deck and increasing storage area is critical. It is also noted that both the foot pathways and vehicle access are available.

This project, also named as Boat Shell, is a 9-week design project focusing on the timber structural system. Research is conducted on the types of timber and its technology as foundation, which help gain more understanding on how to design the building and structure. Traditionally, portal frame system is the most effective way to construct an inexpensive and sustainable building. However, this project focuses on building a three point tripod-like system, which reduces environmental disturbance and usage of material.
